THYROID -A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF BODY

Hello Dear ones,

With new information,with new awareness.........

                       THYROID

Very well heard by all of us.....Right???
The term heard by us is  thyroid hormone......I would like to give detail information about topic.

Thyroid hormone is secreted by gland which is known as thyroid gland, situated in our neck under voice box.The gland medical term is Glandula Thyreoidea. The gland weighs 20 to 60 grams.Hormone production is function of this gland as needed.
That are:

 T3 TRIIODOTHYRONINE
 T4 TETRAIODOTHYRONINE ,also THYROXINE
  CALCITONIN

T3 and T4 are strictly thyroid hormone

Calcitonin function is calcium and bone metabolism

They are directly secreted in blood stream as needed and need is decided by pituatory gland situated in brain.

Thyroid hormone regulates,

-Basal metabolic rate of body.If body needs more energy in certain situations like developmental stages of fetus, during pregnancy, growing fetus in postnatal life in brain development.
-Regulates rate and strength of heart beat.
-Increase rate of breathing, intake and consumption of oxygen.
-It maintains sexual function, sleep and thought patterns.
-In females maintain menstrual cycle.

EFFECTS OF THYROID HORMONE ON BODY..
-Increase body temprature.
-Fast pulse,Strong heart beat.
-Food is used quickly.
-The maturation of brain in growing fetus.
-Growth is promoted in children.
-Activation of nervous system.

As we all know everything should balanced in our body.In hormones also over and under activation leads to disease in body.
An overactive thyroid production leads HYPERTHYROIDISM.
An under active thyroid production leads HYPOTHYROIDISM.
Both leads to disease and its symptoms.

  HYPERTHYROIDISM or GRAVES DISEASE.

-The risk of osteoporosis ,a condition that causes weak bones that break easily.

TREATMENT of hyperthroidism

-Anti thyroid medicines which block thyroid gland cells and production of thyroid hormones.
-Radioiodine - This treatment kills thyroid cells that leads to no production of thyroid hormone. This leads to hypothyroidism.
-Surgery-The removal of thyroid gland.

HYPOTHYROIDISM or HASHIMOTO'S DISEASE

-Slows down metabolism of body
-Feeling cold when other people are not.
-Constipation

-Muscle floppiness leads to weakness.

Hypothyroidism is complication of hyperthyroidism treatment.

DIAGNOSIS

-Symptoms and health problems.A medical and family history of patient.
-Blood test -detecting the thyroid hormone in blood.
-Radioactive iodine uptake test
-Thyroid scan
-Thyroid ultrasound
-Thyroid fine needle biopsy

Some facts of thyroid hormone and pregnancy...

If mother having an imbalance in thyroid hormone its production it leads to complications to mother and fetus in womb.As discuss thyroid hormone is necessary for development of brain and body  of fetus.

Hyperthyroidism leads to premature birth, miscarriage, preeclamsia to mother that is high blood pressure to mother, slow heart rate of fetus etc,,,.....

Hypothyroidism leads to still birth, anemia, retarded  growth of body and brain etc..,,,,......

IT IS MANDATORY  TO EVALUATE THYROID HORMONE IMBALANCE IN WOMEN WHEN PREGNANT,AND IF IMBALANCE PRESENT TREATMENT SHOULD BE DONE IMMEDIATELY.

Women are more effected than men with thyroid imbalance.

In thyroid gland cancer hyperthyroidism occurs.
One more term which is known as GOITER which is due iodine deficiency, leads to hypothyroidism.

A small imbalance in a body can create a huge problems....
We can not stop it but we can atleast change lifestyle to get rid of it......
Stay healthy.....Stay connected........
